On Saturday, March 27, Kent Savage our Advisory Council Chair and Allen Johns our Board President, made a presentation to the Utah Down Syndrome Foundation about The Joy of Downs and Camp Many Stars. Kent explained the mission of The Joy of Downs as strengthening families and expanding horizons of individuals with Down syndrome. Kent also explained the three areas of focus that we use to accomplish our mission. Allen then introduced the summer camp and the opportunity for those in our home state of Utah to attend the “Dress Rehearsal” camps that were presented at the DSAIA conference a week earlier.

Allen, our Board President, attended the Down Syndrome Affiliates In Action annual conference from March 18-21 in Kansas City, Missouri. At the conclusion of the DSAIA conference a Board of Directors was chosen and the trade association was formed. Joe Meares, Board President, describes the mission of DSAIA as: “to support and advance the growth and service capabilities of the local and regional Down syndrome organizations we serve, to be the conduit of value driven training, programs, best practices and support for our members”.
Since this is our nation’s most active and sharing organization of affiliates our 2010 Summer Camp was announced and a special offer was presented to the conference attendees. Two camps will be held this summer as “Dress Rehearsal” camps to polish our programs and operations before the grand opening of camp. Those attending this summer will be given first priority for registration in all other years. If you are willing to help with these “Dress Rehearsal” camps and are willing to make a donation to camp call Allen at (307)-884-6029 before all the spots are taken.
